Opportunity Description: The Metabolism Unit (MetU), a clinical research unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), is seeking highly motivated college graduates for a two-year position as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). The MetU specializes in advancing our knowledge of the complex interplay between metabolic disorders and cardiovascular disease. Models include HIV, generalized obesity, fatty liver disease. For example, persons with HIV are twice as likely to develop heart disease during the course of their lifetime. We aim to understand how inflammation and changes in adipose contribute to this increased risk of heart disease in HIV. Through the conduct of clinical trials at MGH, MetU researchers have made major contributions to our understanding of this phenomenon.
CRCs at the MetU have the opportunity to work on clinical research that is rewarding and has far-reaching implications. Working as a part of a team, CRCs are responsible for facilitating the long-term success of a research trial in several ways. These include:
- Conducting patient visits at the MGH Clinical Research Center and other hospital sites
- Facilitating the screening and recruitment of new patients
- Collecting and managing data
- Performing structured patient interviews
- Ensuring compliance with various regulatory bodies such as the MGH Institutional Review Board
Hardworking and ambitious coordinators may also have the chance to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for authorship/publication.
This position is ideal for a diligent pre-medical graduate who is looking to gain significant research experience in a clinical setting before enrolling in medical school. CRCs at MetU have a high degree of responsibility. The ability to prioritize tasks is important. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a meticulous attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills. A background in statistics/research/clinical settings is desirable but not required.
This is a paid position. CRCs will work 40 hours per week. CRCs will likely be expected to start in June.
How to Apply: To apply, please email Suman Srinivasa, MD directly at ssrinivasa@mgh.harvard.edu with a CV and cover letter describing your background and interest. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis.
