Seeking qualified candidate for a position working on an active, well-funded, disease-focused research project on the basic biology of Parkinson disease with clinical and translational implication. In this position the research assistant will be co-mentored by Gary Ho, MD, PhD, and Dennis Selkoe, MD, a world leader in the field of neurodegenerative disease research and co-director of the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. Our laboratory has a strong record of training interested individuals for future careers in medicine, research, and industry. Our trainees typically achieve co-authorship on papers and talented individuals have submitted first author manuscripts. The position is well-suited to a recent graduate or senior graduating in summer 2024 seeking to have more biomedical research experience before pursuing careers in medicine or research (we would ask for a commitment of at least two years in our lab). The primary techniques to be employed are cell culture of stem cells, stem cell derived neurons, cell lines, preparation of primary rodent neurons from dissected brain tissue, drug treatments and functional assays using these cells. Our goal is to understand the cell biology of Parkinson disease and to identify new targets and treatments directed at these degenerative changes. The Research Assistant will be part of a research team with input in overall project design. The team will also collaborate frequently with other neuroscience labs in the Center.
Anticipated start date: anytime between now and June 2024
