The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working to improve environmental sustainability, human health, and resilience in the built environment through its programs and rating systems including LEED. Today, people in over 150 countries and territories live, work, and learn in LEED certified buildings, communities, and cities that protect health, climate, and natural resources, and enhance quality of life.
The U.S. Market Transformation & Development (U.S. MTD) team works to achieve USGBC’s mission by leading, educating, engaging, and empowering communities to build green. As the U.S. MTD Intern, you will be responsible for authoring several reporting templates that the department will deliver to communicate key information vital to external partners and sponsors, as well as internal staff.
This will entail authoring and editing written documents, organizing to communicate key quantitative and qualitative data sets, and coordinating feedback throughout the process. This work will incorporate key diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to ensure the language and presentation of the reports are open and welcoming to all readers, while maintaining the USGBC voice.
You will collaborate directly with the Associate Director of Operations and key internal staff who lead partnerships, engagements, sponsorship, and other functions tied to the success of this project. You should have a proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively to succinctly convey information, take initiative, prioritize competing demands, determine and meet deadlines, deliver high quality work products, and know when to ask for help.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Creating a work plan that encompasses the scope and timeline of this project
- Synthesize large amounts to qualitative and quantitative information into concise and accessible reports
- Consulting staff for feedback, and determining needed updates and additions to the reports
- Authoring report templates that will inform US MTD sponsors, partners, and engagement stakeholders
- Presenting the report templates and how to use them to internal audiences in a concise and actionable format
- Determining other needs related to generating reports
Other Preferred Experience Requirements:
- Prior experience working in a remote office or on a team within a large organization
- Prior experience in authoring narrative reports
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Business, or related field (or currently in progress)
- Keen interest in USGBC’s mission and supporting our ability to deliver excellence
- Experience in professional or academic settings with reviewing and editing groups of documents
- Ability to balance listening and talking, speaking and writing clearly and accurately, and influencing others and keeping others informed
- Ability to break apart complex work into manageable tasks, create a plan, and follow through on tasks without being asked
- Ability to recognize and correct spelling and grammar errors, while maintaining the rules of USGBC’s voice
- Being receptive to feedback, willing to learn, and embracing continuous improvement
- Base understanding of principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and desire to apply that knowledge to the program
- Ability to independently use and learn software, specifically Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and Canva
- A strong commitment and passion to advance USGBC’s mission

- Location: Remote
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, 40 hours per week
