Founded in January 2020 by Harvard alumni, Letterly is committed to democratizing access to individualized, yet high-quality writing instruction.
We at Letterly believe that strong writing skills serve as the bedrock of being a stronger thinker. The ability to write and think clearly is integral not only to a liberal arts education, but also to our roles in the community at large. From inception to date, Letterly has touched the lives of over 2,000 students in 30+ states and 7 countries, and we are thrilled to continue building a team of individuals who share our educational vision.

Program Description
The Journal is Letterly’s summer writing bootcamp. The mission of The Journal is to form positive habits of reading reputable periodicals in order to regularly engage with current events.
- Students will be reading assigned newspapers, literary magazines, and periodicals on a DAILY basis (M-F). They will produce ~300-400 words per day.
- Editors will be responsible for providing 2 rounds of edits for each piece. The first round is an in-depth feedback within 2-3 days and the second will be a light copyedit. Articles can then be recommended for publication.
- Students also have the option to meet with editors during 1:1 office hours each week.
Thanks to our awesome team of editors, we have published over 12,000 student articles on our online literary magazine. You can read them here: www.ewcjournal.com.
What the Role Entails
We are looking for editors who will be able to:
- Edit students’ work & provide feedback on a daily basis for the summer
- Take responsibility for their students’ writing & development over those 8 weeks
- Hold daily office hours. Note that all editing-related work is asynchronous, and daily office hour sessions can be set at the discretion of the editor.
Being part of a daily publication is an incredible feat. Making quality feedback accessible to families across the country is even more difficult, but we’ve known since our inception that our mission of democratizing writing instruction was going to be a challenge. We hope that you are as excited about this journey as we are, and we very much look forward to reviewing your application.
Logistics
DATES: We are running two bootcamp times this summer:
- June 15 – July 12, 2024 and/or
- July 20 – August 16, 2024.
We ask that editors to be available FOR BOTH SESSIONS. Please also make sure that you are available a few days after the last day of the bootcamps to submit feedback for the final pieces.
SALARY: Editors are paid on a “per student” basis for the duration of the bootcamp regardless of whether the student actually submits writing pieces or not. Bonuses are available for hitting timeliness and quality targets.
Decisions will be made on a rolling basis. Our deadline for accepting new applications will be May 31, 2024 or until we have hired for all available slots. In addition to Crimson Careers, please submit a resume and writing sample HERE.
