Position Overview
This position will support advancing environmental justice principles in technology projects by contributing to the Environmental Justice in Tech (EJIT) Project. The EJIT Fellow will focus on research, writing, and providing content for the various EJIT project resources.
Responsibilities
The EJIT fellows are responsible for several aspects of the EJIT project content, and supporting thorough research, analysis, and review efforts. This includes supporting the:
- ZINE:
- Creating the 2024 version of the GLITCH environmental justice in technology digital zine
- Reviewing zine submissions according to pre-defined selection criteria
- Curating the accepted submissions for the zine by drafting a coherent narrative
- WORKSHOP/STORYTELLING DEVELOPMENT
- Co-creating proposals and outlines for 3-5 educational offerings from the EJIT project
- Each workshop should tackle a distinct subject matter cluster, and may be catered to different audiences.
- ENVIRONMENTALLY JUST DATA INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM
- Contributing to initial research for the program, including literature reviews and project scoping
- Researching environmental data governance and data sovereignty concepts
- PITCH YOUR PROJECT
- Tell us about an EJIT project YOU would like to work on this summer! Any format – from short films to academic papers – welcome.
- Communicating issues and roadblocks to EJIT team for workshopping and resolution.
- Attending weekly Earth Hacks staff meetings (30 minutes), and 1:1 meetings with team members as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience engaging with environmental justice concepts – whether that be through community engagement, lived experience, study, or something else – is required.
- Excellent writing skills are required. Previous writing experience (may be self-published) is preferred.
- Previous research experience in an environmental or technology field is preferred, but not required .
- Previous science communication skills are a bonus, as are animation, graphic design, and geospatial skills!

- Technical competency using software such as Slack, Zoom, Google Suite
