The Crimson Summer Academy at Harvard (www.crimsonsummer.harvard.edu) is now accepting applications for the following faculty openings for the Summer of 2024. The session dates are June 30-August 9, 2024. Ideal candidates will have successful experience working with high school students from local public high schools. All faculty members must be on campus to teach their courses, hold one office hour/course weekly, attend a weekly faculty meeting, (hybrid) and meet once a week with a small group of students. Faculty members will work closely with their teaching assistants, Harvard and CSA undergraduates. At the conclusion of the summer, faculty members write summative evaluations for all students.
To apply, please send a brief letter of interest and resume to Dr. Kim Parker, Director: kparker@fas.harvard.edu
Science Teacher: Sophomores and Juniors
The prospective faculty member will teach one section of Sophomore Biology and one section of Junior Environmental Science in collaboration with a returning faculty member. During Biology, students will participate in weekly laboratory sessions and research. The class will cover a variety of topics related to biology, and students will work in small groups using sophisticated equipment to conduct experiments. The focus will be on two primary experiments and statistical tools to determine the data’s validity. The course will use techniques commonly found in university biology labs, and students will be expected to maintain a high standard of individual work while also collaborating with their peers.
In Environmental Science, the focus will shift to examining the causes and effects of climate change and the public policy debates surrounding it. Juniors will research global, regional, and local policies and practices related to climate change, analyze air quality and temperature data, and synthesize their findings into a final report presentation.
