We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and accomplished bioinformatics scientist to guide the development of novel therapies using our next-generation gene editing technologies. The individual in this role work closely with teams throughout Beam’s R&D organization to design new data-driven solutions and to better understand and optimize our gene editing technologies and delivery platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and strategic deployment of custom machine learning models leveraging our extensive internal data stores.
- Spearhead large-scale data analysis initiatives to accelerate LNP development.
- Integrate bioinformatics, genomics, and functional data, generating new insights into base editor behavior.
- Design and implement custom bioinformatics data pipelines to analyze results from novel and established next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays.
- Collaborate with our Lead Discovery, Lead Optimization, and LNP teams to design data-driven solutions across our technology platform.
- Communicate scientifically rigorous findings via verbal and written communications, visualizations, and presentations.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, Biophysics, or another relevant field
- 5+ years of related experience in an industry setting strongly preferred
- Strong scientific background, including an understanding of gene editing, molecular biology, structural biology, and statistics
- Experience working with multiple sequence alignments and large sequence datasets
- Proficiency with common bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis and working with “omics” datasets
- Demonstrated expertise in Python and data science software tools
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on scientific challenges
