What advice do you have for Harvard Griffin GSAS students, now that you’ve graduated?
If you’re aiming for an academic postdoc position after graduation, especially in the sciences, I highly recommend keeping an eye out for fellowship opportunities in your field. Securing a fellowship offers more research freedom and enhances your prospects for future job applications, though such opportunities are typically limited. Many fellowships have deadlines around fall or early winter (December and January), so I suggest beginning to contact potential hosts and prepare application materials around September. However, it’s always beneficial to start preparing even earlier. Additionally, even if you’re not pursuing a fellowship, reaching out to individuals you’re interested in working with sooner rather than later can be helpful.
