What advice do you have for Harvard undergraduates, now that you’ve graduated?
Try applying to opportunities, grants, and jobs abroad! It may be terrifying at first — especially if, like me, you’ve never lived outside of the US. But truly, it can be an amazing experience. MCS has a wonderful list of generously funded summer opportunities outside of the US, and many other organizations within Harvard (including concentration and secondary offices & various institutes and think tanks within Harvard) offer even more ways to fund your travel. My junior summer, I worked with the UN, WHO and Gavi in Geneva, Switzerland through the Harvard Global Health Institute. Now, I’m pursuing a Fulbright to research biotechnology law in Canada’s capital. As cliche as it sounds, living and working abroad is a great way to expand your horizons, develop an international network, and explore beautiful new cities and natural sights. And by going abroad over the summer, you can still spend all 8 semesters at Harvard with your friends. It’s really the best of both worlds! 🙂
