In what ways has Harvard Extension School impacted your career and long-term professional goals?
My ALM in International Relations allowed me to explore a field of study that is distinct from my day job, but the skills I have learned and developed have certainly been those that I have been able to apply within my professional environment, which has been a huge positive to take from the experience. Perhaps more importantly, it has also allowed me to explore a field of study in which I always held an interest and has encouraged me to continue my studies. It is my intention to start an MA in Global Security through King’s College London later this year/ next year and the possibility of progressing through to a PhD now seems a much more realistic prospect. It has also given me encouragement to contemplate a career change, even at my advanced years!
What advice do you have for HES students now that you have graduated?
If you are wondering whether HES is for you, whether you will have the time to fit studies around your existing commitments, and whether you will be able to meet the standard expected of you, stop wondering and take the plunge – you will not regret it at all! The experience at HES is life affirming, both in terms of the quality of education you can receive, the diverse perspectives to which you will be exposed and the broad spectrum of students with whom you will get to work and the support you will receive along the way.
