In what ways has HES impacted your career and long-term professional goals?
There I was, in an Urban Development class at HES. The professor, who also teaches at the Kennedy School, gave us a prompt – to create an affordable housing development project that was also profitable. Even with all the Low Income Housing Tax Credits and etc, I just wasn’t happy with the returns. It was then that the lightbulb went off – 3D printed housing! It allows for more sustainable, durable and more affordable construction. My professor encouraged me to study this topic further so under his guidance I wrote a research paper on 3D printed housing as part of an independent research study class that’s offered by the HES. After finishing that paper, he told me “this could be a real business”, so I ran with it! It led me ultimately to my start up – developing 3D printed housing! I’m currently working on America’s first three-story 3D printed house in Pompano Beach, Florida.

What advice do you have for HES students now that you have graduated?
Finish the degree, and lean on your advisors! There was a point where I was taking four full time classes and working full time and I simply got overwhelmed. I took some time off, and my advisor told me to ease back into it by simply taking one class, but it had to be something that I would really enjoy – so I ended up taking a class in making short films and it was absolutely what I needed to get back into the groove of taking classes.
