In what ways has HES impacted your career and long-term professional goals?
My experience at HES has been truly transformative! The combination of gaining content knowledge in mathematics and instructional design, alongside the instructional methods employed by professors, has enriched my understanding of both learning and teaching. Being immersed in a diverse and global community at HES provided invaluable perspectives and insights that extend far beyond the classroom. The opportunity to network with peers and professors over summer at Harvard University was enriching, both personally and professionally. Moreover, the exposure to a wealth of information and perspectives can broaden our horizon and shape our thinking differently. It’s fascinating how completing a course can lead to subconscious shifts in thinking, demonstrating the profound impact of HES courses on our minds.
HES has evidently had a profound impact on my approach to education and I am implementing those insights into my role as the co-founder of Prarthana.in World School. By incorporating methodologies learned at HES, I am creating an environment where students feel empowered to take ownership of their learning journey.
My time at Harvard Extension School has been incredibly rewarding, not just in terms of academic knowledge, but also in terms of personal growth and global perspective.
What advice do you have for HES students now that you have graduated?
Feeling alone or questioning the purpose of your degree is a common experience, especially when faced with difficult assignments or moments of doubt. However, it’s important to remember your vision and the reasons why you embarked on this journey in the first place. Involve yourself wholeheartedly in all aspects of your academic journey. Every assignment, no matter how small, presents an opportunity for growth and learning. Participating in discussions, seeking help when needed, and utilizing available resources such as the writing center and meetings with academic advisors can greatly enhance your academic experience. Remember that you’re not alone in this journey. Your professors, peers, and other resources are there to support you every step of the way. With grit, resilience, and persistence, you can overcome any challenges that come your way. Stay focused on completion of your degree (I used to imagine walking across the commencement stage), keep showing up, and trust in your ability to succeed. You’ve got this!
