In what ways has HES impacted your career and long-term professional goals?
It has positioned me to make the career change from airline executive to work in electoral politics/public service.
What advice do you have for HES students now that you have graduated?
- Do your research on who is teaching a particular class before registering (it will make a massive difference in your learning and the overall experience).
- Use the time out of class that your professors offer- the time is nearly always well spent.
- Learn and understand the business that Harvard is running and the brand they are preserving – it will inform you on countless occasions when others are spinning wondering why things are done the way they are, and it will save you wasted time and energy.
- Many of the HES students are mid-career, some even late career, and the huge value of HES is obtaining a Harvard education while working/raising families, and HES students are at a different stage of their lives than the College. If you go in for the right reasons and with an understanding of the learning objectives, you will have a great experience.
- The professors and administration want you to succeed, so soak up the support and lean into it.
