In what ways has Harvard Extension School impacted your career and long-term professional goals?
Harvard Extension School helped me bridge the gap between technical leadership and big-picture strategy, giving me the tools to lead with empathy and purpose. The experience deepened my understanding of how organizations work, challenged me to grow as a communicator and mentor, and reinforced my commitment to building teams where people feel respected and empowered. It’s shaped not just how I approach my work, but the kind of leader I strive to be—one who values both technical excellence and authentic connection.
My advice for current Harvard Extension School students is to take full advantage of the community and resources around you—don’t go it alone. Connect with your instructors and teaching staff early and often; they genuinely want to see you succeed and can offer valuable guidance, especially if you’re ever stuck or unsure about an assignment. Get to know your classmates, too—some of the best learning and networking happens through those peer connections, whether it’s in study groups, online forums, or student clubs. I highly recommend joining organizations like the Harvard Extension Student Association (HESA) and checking out events from the Office of Student Affairs, which are great for making friends and building your network. The Writing Center, career advising, and all the Harvard libraries are fantastic resources—use them! Finally, remember that everyone feels imposter syndrome at some point, but you belong here. Lean into the experience, ask for help when you need it, and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.
