Reporting to the Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Services, the Senior Associate Director of STEM Employer Relations will build and expand relationships with leading employers to create robust talent pipelines for STEM Ph.D. and postdoctoral scholars. With a focus on the local biosciences industry, the Senior Associate Director will lead strategic initiatives to connect Yale’s top-tier talent with career opportunities, driving the design and implementation of innovative outreach strategies and engagement programs to broaden the range of career exploration and job opportunities available to PhDs and postdoctoral scholars at Yale. The Senior Associate Director will take the lead in all aspects of creating and enriching business relationships with organizations to identify employment opportunities. To successfully execute this work, the Senior Associate Director will establish and cultivate productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, campus organizations, and alumni.
For this role, the Office of Career Strategy seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with strong relationship management skills and a proven ability to develop and manage initiatives. A Ph.D. in a life science field is strongly preferred. Experience working in a university setting in university relations, recruiting, human resources, or a related area is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Essential Duties
1. Plans and executes admission, financial aid, internship, and career services programs. Prepares and submits recommendations to admissions and financial aid committees. Plans and cultivates new corporate relationships to generate job opportunities both domestically and internationally.
2. Participates in long-range planning; recommends and contributes to the development of career services, financial aid, and admissions policies.
3. Provides guidance, advices and counseling on academic, admissions, financial , and career services matters to students and prospective students. Works with students, alumni and employers to identify existing and emerging employment opportunities.
4. Develops and analyzes statistical data to determine patterns and trends that impact and inform the direction of the admissions or financial aid. Conducts ongoing research on employment trends and evolving industry-specific recruiting and talent management needs.
5. Develops budgets and loan repayment schedules.
6. Develops systems for admissions and financial aid activities. Leads projects to continuously improve use of technology.
7. Writes publications to inform students of developments within financial aid and admissions offices.
8. Organizes and conducts corporate presentations, networking nights, and career fairs. Guide employers in developing and executing on-and off campus strategies for attracting University talent.
9. Supervises and trains a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
10. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and five years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skilled relationship manager with experience in establishing and nurturing connections with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, recruiters, and senior executives.

Required Skill/Ability 3:
Exceptional public speaking, presentation, writing, and communication skills. Proficiency in utilizing online resources, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.

Capable of monitoring and understanding industry and sector trends. Knowledgeable about career paths and job opportunities for individuals with a Ph.D. or postdoc experience in the life sciences.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Appreciation and respect for the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences, encompassing various age groups, genders, and nationalities. Knowledgeable about the policies that regulate the hiring of foreign individuals at American companies, such as visas and company sponsorship.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
A Ph.D. degree in a life science field is strongly preferred. Previous experience in university relations, recruiting, human resources, or a related area within a university setting is a plus.
