Signet Society Arts and Museums Internship posting
Description of the position, including the project the student(s) will be working on (if you have one already set up; if you don’t, a general description is fine).
The Signet Society, an affiliate of Harvard College founded in 1870, is an arts and literary organization comprised of undergraduate, faculty, and alumni members. Students and faculty who are interested in the arts meet over lunch, often joined by renowned artists, writers, actors, and scholars visiting Cambridge. Special events such as readings, talks, screenings, shows, and receptions reflect the interests of our intergenerational community: literature, the performing arts, the fine arts, the social sciences, and culture. The Signet has up to eighty-five undergraduate members, over 100 active Affiliates (comprised of Harvard faculty and staff, local artists, and graduate students) and 2,000 alumni. We are fully supported by individual donations and dues collected from our community.
We are seeking an intern to assist with development, communications, and archival work this January. This internship is ideal for students interested in arts administration, non-profit work, fundraising, and program administration. The intern will work with the Chief Administrator to process and log donations, write and mail acknowledgments, and communicate with donors and others via email. The intern will also have the opportunity to tackle some archival projects for our organization – our history and records date back to 1870! If you are interested in helping to preserve history and learning about archival best practices, this role could be for you. Thank you for your interest.
- If the position is remote, hybrid, in-person or flexible to the applicant’s preference. This position is hybrid, but with a preference for an in-person component (the intern will be checking physical mail, sending handwritten donor acknowledgment notecards, working in the physical archive, etc.) The in-person office is located at 46 Dunster St, Cambridge, MA 02138.
- The skills/experience you’d like applicants to have. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Responsible, dependable and timely. Able to work independently and always meet deadlines..
***This position is part of the MCS 2026-2027 Arts & Museums January Internship Program. The program is a valuable chance for currently enrolled Harvard College students to complete a three-week, project-based internship in the Boston area during the January term (January4th -22nd, excluding Martin Luther King Jr. Day). MCS will offer a $750 stipend as well as on-campus housing to any student who completes a winternship. To be considered, you must apply in Crimson Careers.
Students applying for an Arts & Museums Winter Internship who require on-campus housing must also apply for Wintersession housing before the Housing Office’s Round 1 deadline in early October via the Residential Portal Winter Recess Housing – College Housing. Please note that you do not need to have interviewed for or received an internship offer in order to submit this housing application. Applying by the deadline is necessary to avoid the $50 late application fee assessed by the Housing Office. Other internships take place outside of Boston and provide their own housing.
