The Shi Lab is launching at the Rowland Institute at Harvard this Fall and is recruiting highly motivated, intellectually curious post-baccalaureate researchers to join our team. Our research aims to uncover novel molecular mechanisms that drive brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on glycans—complex sugar molecules that decorate our cells and shape the brain’s extracellular environment. Despite their essential roles across biology, the functions of glycans in the nervous system remain largely uncharted. We aim to illuminate how these molecules influence neural health and disease progression using interdisciplinary approaches that combine advanced microscopy (confocal, electron, in-vivo two-photon), viral vectors, protein engineering, mouse models, and multi-omics technologies. We welcome students with interests in neuroscience, molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or related disciplines. Our lab supports both independent and collaborative research opportunities, depending on each student’s interests and experience level.
