Job Description
Technical advisors support the work of Ropes & Gray’s intellectual property related practices, including our intellectual property litigation and intellectual property transactions practice.
Technical advisors are given the opportunity to:
- Help in developing arguments and preparing petitions and other materials for proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Assist in preparing materials for use in connections with proceedings before the European Patent Office
- Assist attorneys in technical matters relating to our practice, including litigation, counseling and licensing
- Assist in preparing opinions
- Assist in conducting patentability and freedom to operate analyses
- Assist attorneys in due diligence in connection with a wide range of transactions
Brief Total Rewards Package
Starting salary is $130,000. Technical Advisors are eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus based on performance and are eligible to participate in the 401(k) component of the firm’s Retirement Savings Plans. Technical Advisors are also eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and time off benefits. After two years of full-time employment as a Technical Advisor, there is an option to enter law school while continuing to work at the firm. Technical Advisors who enter law school are reimbursed for tuition fees, that is charged by an accredited and firm-approved law school, and for expenses associated with taking the Patent Bar exam. At the completion of law school, an individual who has performed well in the program and in law school will be considered for full-time employment as an associate attorney.
Education and Experience Required
The firm is seeking candidates with 0-3 years’ of experience and who are excited about a career in law.
Preferred engineering degrees include electrical engineering, computer engineering and computer science. Students who expect to complete their studies no later than the spring of 2024 and recent graduates (spring 2023) at the B.S. and Ph.D. levels are encouraged to apply.
