About Pascal
Pascal is pioneering the next generation of heating and cooling technology for refrigeration, HVAC, data centers, and more. We’re a Cambridge-based climate tech startup that emerged from breakthrough materials research at Harvard’s Department of Chemistry, backed by Khosla Ventures and MIT’s The Engine. Our mission: eliminate the massive climate impact of refrigeration and air conditioning while making cooling more efficient and affordable.
The problem is urgent: heating, cooling, and refrigeration consume 40% of global electricity and leak refrigerants that are 2,000+ times more potent than CO2. Pascal’s solid-state heat pump technology replaces chemical refrigerants with innovative solid-state materials that heat and cool under pressure—delivering 20% better energy efficiency while completely eliminating refrigerant emissions.
We’re moving from lab demonstration to commercial deployment, and we’re looking for motivated self-starters to contribute to our mission.
The Fellowship
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of climate impact, cutting-edge technology, and business strategy. You’ll work directly with our Head of Business Development and collaborate closely with our CEO, getting hands-on experience across the full spectrum of climate tech commercialization—from Series A fundraising to carbon accounting.
We have two open positions:
- Undergraduate students from Harvard/MIT interested in gaining hands-on climate tech experience
- Graduate students from Harvard/MIT looking to understand how breakthrough climate solutions scale from lab to market
Time Commitment: Full-time summer or part-time during semester, flexible based on candidate availability
Location: In-person in Cambridge, MA at 501 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square
What You’ll Work On
1. Series A Fundraising Support
- Market analysis: Conduct rigorous market research including TAM/SAM/SOM calculations, growth projections, customer segmentation, and trend analysis to strengthen our investment thesis
- Competitive intelligence: Build comprehensive competitive landscape assessments analyzing product positioning, pricing, market share, and our differentiated value proposition across direct and adjacent competitors
- Data room preparation: Organize our virtual data room with financial records, legal documents, operational metrics, and IP documentation for investor due diligence
- Investment materials: Contribute to pitch deck development, executive summaries, financial models, and investment memoranda tailored for institutional investors
2. Business Development Support
- Customer outreach: Help identify potential customers across target markets including beverage companies, grocery retailers, HVAC manufacturers, and data center operators
- Prospect research: Build target account lists and conduct research on decision-makers, sustainability initiatives, and current cooling infrastructure
- Meeting preparation: Prepare briefing materials and talking points for customer meetings and demos
3. Climate Impact & Carbon Strategy
- Quantify Pascal’s climate potential: Model our carbon impact across different product categories (beverage coolers, HVAC systems, data center cooling, etc.). What does widespread adoption mean for global emissions?
- Scope 3 carbon accounting: Calculate the downstream emissions impact enabled by our technology when deployed at scale
- Carbon credit development: Research pathways to establish carbon credits for high-efficiency equipment; explore partnership opportunities with platforms like Therm
- Sustainability benchmarking: Analyze sustainability reports from HVAC manufacturers and potential customers to position Pascal’s impact narrative
4. Government Relations & Grant Strategy
- Grant writing: Support applications for federal and state climate tech funding programs
- Government engagement: Help build relationships with policymakers and understand regulatory landscape for refrigeration technology
What This Fellowship Will Teach
This isn’t a typical internship where you’ll be siloed into one function. You’ll:
- See the full picture: From fundraising strategy to carbon modeling, understand how climate tech companies build transformative businesses
- Work with senior leadership: Direct collaboration with our Head of Business Development and CEO means your work directly shapes company strategy
- Make real impact: Your analysis will inform decisions about which markets we enter, how we position our technology, and how we communicate our climate impact to investors and customers
