Bioethics Research Assistant at the NIH
The Department of Bioethics at the NIH is one of the leading centers for research and scholarship in bioethics. Our faculty use a range of methods, from normative and conceptual analyses to empirical testing, involving primary data collection, both qualitative and quantitative. The Research Assistant will support the faculty with their research and teaching. They will also be responsible for administrative tasks within the Department.
Specific responsibilities include:
· Assist with all stages of the research process, including literature searches, protocol and instrument development, recruitment, data acquisition and analysis, and manuscript preparation and submission.
· Help coordinate the Department’s courses, seminars and workshops, the Empirical Research Lab, and ethics consultations.
· Handle ad-hoc administrative tasks.
· Take initiative to identify additional opportunities to support faculty and suggest improvements for the above tasks.
Opportunities include participating in the life of the department, including seminars and lectures, and working closely with Department staff and fellows in a highly collaborative, collegial, and interdisciplinary environment. Co-authorship on publications is possible. The research assistant will be hired on a contract basis with the possibility of a longer-term arrangement.
Qualifications: Reliability, maturity, and good task and time-management skills. Willingness to work with multiple people, and handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. Excellent library, computer, oral and written communication skills. Experience with statistical software (e.g., STATA, NVivo) is desirable but not required. Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree. Persons with Master’s level training are encouraged to apply.
