The Mahindra Humanities Center invites applications for undergraduate internships in the public humanities.
Fall 2022 Internship in the Public Humanities: Woodberry Poetry Room Internship
The Woodberry Poetry Room is one of the largest audio-visual archives for literary recordings in the United States, and a lively arts center and reading library, free and open to the public.
The Poetry Room intern will be involved in almost every aspect of making our space, events, and collections as welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and creative as possible. Projects will include editing/researching transcriptions of major literary recordings from our archive to enhance online access; expanding our social media presence and writing Blog posts (interviews, research articles, etc.) that galvanize interest in the Poetry Room by audiences worldwide; contributing to the prep work and publicity for our public programs and potentially developing their own idea(s) for upcoming events in Spring 2023; and assistance with on-going archival research and the cataloging of our LP collection.
This internship will be particularly useful to students who are interested in careers in the digital humanities, arts administration, libraries and archives, writing, publishing, or copyright law. Students applying for this internship should be ready to commit 6-10 hours per week throughout the duration of the internship; work will be partially remote/in-person. The period of the internship is 10 weeks during the Fall 2022, ideally beginning the week of September 19th and ending when fall term classes end (no work is expected over break). The intern will receive a stipend of $1,450 ($725 payable at the end of week 5 and $725 payable upon successful completion of the internship and submission of a brief report).
Students may apply to up to THREE “Fall 2022 Internships in the Public Humanities.” If you apply to more than one, please apply to each separately and rank them in your order of preference in each of your cover letters.
