TEAM OVERVIEW

Established in 2008 by Ken Mehlman, the Public Policy team works in partnership with the KKR Global Institute (KGI), KKR leadership, industry and country teams, portfolio companies, limited partners and other stakeholders to facilitate better investing through a better understanding of the intersection between policy and politics. The Public Policy team helps guide KKR’s investments and portfolio companies on legislative, regulatory, and reputational considerations to help manage risks and identify opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The KKR Public Policy team seeks to hire an intern, as part of the 10-week Summer Analyst Program, to join our team at the intersection of U.S. policy and finance. Working closely with the full KKR Public Policy & Affairs team, the individual will take on a range of responsibilities related to policy research, development of thought leadership and associated content, engagement with global investment and other business teams, understanding and mitigating risk, and liaising with external parties. This individual should exhibit strong research and writing skills. Attention to detail, the ability to collaborate, and a self-driven initiative are also key attributes. The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program with demonstrated interest or experience in the study and practice of politics and public policy. The position presents an exciting opportunity to engage in policy and political analysis and research in a stimulating commercial environment. KKR’s 2026 Summer Analyst Program is hosted from June-August and there is the ability to extend the internship into the fall academic semester should there be a business need and the Summer Analyst’s performance meets or exceeds expectations. This is an in-person opportunity based in our NYC office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Political and Public Policy Research
  • Policy-Related Content Creation
  • Legislation Monitoring and Analysis
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Event Management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time academic program pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or a recent graduate
  • Competency at PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong writing skills
  • Sophisticated understanding and genuine interest in public policy, politics, and economic issues
  • Preference for previous professional experiences, such as an internship in government, on a campaign, or with a trade association, or NGO

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS

  • Interest in working in the Public Policy, Regulatory, Political, or Communications fields
  • Excellent research skills; is curious and will source and integrate different perspectives
  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to multi-task several projects on tight deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, to engage with members at all levels across the firm
  • Team player with interpersonal skills that can develop relationships and collaborate with individuals across a variety of sectors and backgrounds
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and pressurized environment
