This opportunity is available to Japanese nationals pursuing an advanced degree in economics at a university outside of Japan. Applicants are expected to complete their degree by the age of 34 and should have an interest in working at the IMF. Apply Now

The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies (JISP) is a two-year program intended to help Japanese nationals to obtain Ph.D. degrees in macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, international trade, poverty issues, political economy, or econometrics and prepare to work as economists at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Up to seven scholarships are awarded annually on a competitive basis to students with a record of high academic achievement. - to attend a 2-day (expenses-paid) orientation program at the IMF in Washington D.C. where they will meet other scholars selected for the program and engage with IMF staff members and program alumni.
- to participate in a 10-13 week fully-paid summer internship at the IMF (after the third or fourth year of graduate study).
- to be considered for the IMF’s Economist Program (EP).
