Description of Role
We presently staff 50 volunteer mentors who are helping students afford and attend college. We have built out a portal that allows students and mentors to signup and be mentored.

We are presently developing the ‘signed in’ section of the portal, where students can view their lesson plans and coordinate with their mentors. Our goal is that with this built out we can serve hundreds of more students, helping them to attend and afford college.
The stack is all newly built, on GitHub, and uses the PERN architecture:

Description of Organization:
Fair Opportunity Project empowers students to access and afford college through its digital portal of curated, comprehensive resources and services on all aspects of the college application process. Our student-facing materials are created by a diverse pool of current college students and college advising professionals who compile college admissions and financial aid resources of the highest quality. Our approach uses technology and radical accessibility to reach and support college-interested students anywhere on the planet. Fair Opportunity Project’s resources have been accessed by over 100,000 users across 204 countries, which has resulted in a Forbes 30 under 30 award and features in the New York Times, CNBC, Thrillist, the Harvard Ed Magazine, Study Breaks Magazine, and the Harvard Gazette.
Fair Opportunity Project was awarded as a top education nonprofit in 2018 by Forbes. Every year we send out free college application material to over 60,000 public educators each year. We presently are also tasked with allocating ~500,000 in federal funding in the state of WIS and also volunteer hundreds of mentorship hours for students each year. This portal is part of our continued effort to provide both scale and depth in our offerings to help students from all backgrounds get a fair opportunity.
Virtual or In-person?
This position can take place entirely virtually. The intern is also welcome to work in person in our office in Madison, WI located in the downtown startup incubator space, StartingBlock Madison.
Internship Dates and Hours per Week: 8-10 hours per week during the Fall 2023 academic semester. This is a one-semester position with the possibility of extension for Spring 2024.
