Dewpoint Therapeutics is building a highly collaborative team to harness the power of biomolecular condensates. Together, we are leveraging a transformative shift in the understanding of cellular biology to discover and advance breakthrough therapeutics for the toughest diseases.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Scientist/Sr. Scientist with a deep understanding of metabolic diseases and a proven track record in setting up and conducting functional assays in human cellular disease models. This role is a key part of our collaboration with Novo Nordisk and our Metabolic Diseases team to explore the potential of biomolecular condensates in treating insulin resistance and diabetes progression. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing and optimizing functional assays using advanced cellular models (both 2D and 3D) to evaluate the efficacy of potential therapeutic compounds that target metabolic disease pathways.
In this position you’ll be part of an energizing and supportive startup culture engaged in continuous learning, and part of an exceptional international team. This role is based at our site in the Seaport area in Boston. Dewpoint offers competitive salary, great benefits, and amazing perks.
In this role you will…
- Develop and optimize functional assays to support the hit-to-lead (H2L) optimization process for small molecule candidates targeting metabolic diseases
- Conduct functional assays in human skeletal muscle, human adipocyte, and primary human hepatocyte models
- Establish and maintain scalable assays that can be run at a high cadence for effective hit triaging, ensuring relevance to human disease mechanisms
- Design and execute experiments to identify compounds that support the Target Product Profile (TPP) in metabolic diseases
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align assay development with project goals, providing strategic input on assay selection and optimization to ensure the robustness and scalability of the screening cascade
- Lead the progression of compounds through the screening decision tree, ensuring relevance to human cells and elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying observed phenotypes
- Integrate omics-based data for target deconvolution and validation to enhance the understanding of metabolic disease pathways and therapeutic intervention points
- Become a valuable contributor to other initiatives as they arise in our fast paced and agile startup environment
To do that you will need…
- Ph.D. or equivalent in metabolic diseases or a related field, with a focus on conditions such as diabetes, NASH/MASH, or obesity
- At least 5 years of experience in metabolic disease research, with a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory work and in vitro model development
- Extensive experience in developing and conducting functional assays to assess metabolic output
- Extensive experience and expertise in working with primary human cells (such as hepatocytes and adipocytes) to study metabolic disease mechanisms
- Proven experience with human iPSC culture and differentiation
- Deep biological understanding of metabolic disease pathways and mechanisms of action for potential therapeutics
- First author metabolic research publication/s in reputed journals
- Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment, and experience in mentoring and leading other scientific staff
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, the shared language of our multicultural team
It is nice but not essential that you also have…
- At least 2 years of experience in a biotech/pharma industry setting
- Experience in establishing 3D cellular models for measuring metabolic outputs
- Experience in assay development for high-throughput screening and assay automation
- Proficiency in analyzing large omics data sets for target identification and validation
- Coding experience to enhance data analysis and model development
- Demonstrated leadership in scientific project development and team mentoring
About Dewpoint
Dewpoint Therapeutics is the first company founded to apply the emerging discipline of biomolecular condensates to drug discovery. Dewpoint believes that a vast range of conditions have pathways that are regulated by condensates or arise from the dysfunction of condensates — including cancer, neurodegeneration, and metabolic disease. Dewpoint scientists are working in Boston, MA, and Dresden and Frankfurt, Germany, to translate condensate biology into treatments for the toughest diseases.
Dewpoint strives to cultivate an inclusive international community that welcomes and empowers everyone. We reject racism, discrimination, harassment, brutality, and all other manifestations of hate. We draw strength from diversity.
