Pao Arts Center seeks a motivated undergraduate student to assist with the programs at Pao Arts Center in Boston’s Chinatown.
Through arts, culture, and education, Pao Arts Center brings together community members across generations to reclaim a critical piece of Chinatown history to create healthy families and vibrant community. In partnership with Bunker Hill Community College, BCNC opened the Center in 2017 to be Chinatown’s first community-based arts center and Boston’s newly dedicated Asian American and Asian immigrant cultural space.
The intern will join a small staff and will experience multiple facets of arts and non-profit management ranging from with a focus on outreach, engagement, and programs. The selected intern will work closely with the Arts Engagement Manager, Visual Arts Manager, and Director on programming in person an exhibition and Community Lunar New Year’s event early late February, early March 2026.
Additionally, the intern will work closely with Pao Arts Center Communication and Development Manager on marketing, social media and outreach.
The selected intern will have a demonstrated interest in using arts and culture for community and neighborhood development. A student studying visual arts, arts education, arts management, or cultural studies would be ideal. The selected candidate will have strong written and communications skills, be a self-starter with the ability to work well-independently and be willing to ask questions when
needed. Most importantly, the successful candidate will show enthusiasm for learning and contributing to a small team environment. Ability to speak Mandarin or Cantonese and ability to write Chinese is aplus.
***This position is part of the MCS 2026-2027 Arts & Museums January Internship Program. The program is a valuable chance for currently enrolled Harvard College students to complete a three-week, project-based internship in the Boston area during the January term (January4th -22nd, excluding Martin Luther King Jr. Day). MCS will offer a $750 stipend as well as on-campus housing to any student who completes a winternship. To be considered, you must apply in Crimson Careers.
Students applying for an Arts & Museums Winter Internship who require on-campus housing must also apply for Wintersession housing before the Housing Office’s Round 1 deadline in early October via the Residential Portal Winter Recess Housing – College Housing. Please note that you do not need to have interviewed for or received an internship offer in order to submit this housing application. Applying by the deadline is necessary to avoid the $50 late application fee assessed by the Housing Office. Other internships take place outside of Boston and provide their own housing.
