A leading force in the city’s cultural community, Boston Center for the Arts has supported thousands of individual artists, small organizations, and performing arts companies, who add depth and dimension to the Boston arts ethos. POSITION CONCEPT
Located in the historic South End, Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is committed to incubating and showcasing the performing and visual arts of our time. Internships at BCA allow you the opportunity to gain insight into the wide spectrum of business operations of a non-profit arts organization, work with different departments on a variety of projects, develop skills essential for your future employment and connect with local artists and arts professionals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns at BCA generally work between Monday and Friday and during regular business hours (9am–5pm). There may be times when interns are asked to work evenings or weekends for special events, though these are rare and will be discussed with the intern well in advance of the event. During the internship, the intern will focus on the following areas:
- Grant and sponsorship support
- Programs event planning and execution and follow-up
- School and community outreach research and strategy
- Data management
- Other donor relations, marketing, arts administration work as needed
- Assisting with special events as required;
- Attending meetings as required;
- Acting as a BCA ambassador and resource to the public;
QUALIFICATIONS
Internships are open to anyone seeking to expand their knowledge of art non-profit administration and who want to develop a deeper connection with artists and art professionals. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or interest in working in an organization dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
RELATED EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will have: a genuine interest in the arts and arts administration; an eagerness to learn; a strong sense of personal responsibility; a high level of maturity and professionalism; good time management as well as organization skills; attention to detail; excellent communication skills; and be comfortable working individually and collaboratively.

***This position is part of the MCS 2024-2025 Arts & Museums January Internship Program. The program is a valuable chance for currently enrolled Harvard College students to complete a three-week, project-based internship in the Boston area during the January term (January 6th – January 24th, excluding Martin Luther King Jr. Day). MCS will offer a $750 stipend as well as on-campus housing to any student who completes a winternship. Please note that some internships may be virtual or take place outside of Boston.
