ANKURI Internship Training and Work Responsibilities Description:
The Internship program is designed to support high-quality, carefully designed, 8-week-minimum service internships in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, India in which the work of our interns can become an essential part of short and medium term projects leading to concrete positive impacts for local communities in resource poor contexts. Candidates with interests in teaching, communications (social and digital media), design (including fashion and graphic design), community development, livelihood and social entrepreneurship, theatre and/or documentary filmmaking are encouraged to apply. There is a 5000$ grant offered to the selected candidates.
ANKURI Intern Placement Training:
· This training will begin two days after the interns’ arrival at the Founders home and will conclude on the weekend following the first week of classes
· Training for interns will vary according to the tasks given to the interns
· Education Interns:
o Class organization discussion: how to set up the classroom from day one; this discussion will precede the first class
o Discussion and creation of a lesson plan designed to gauge the students’ knowledge of English; this lesson plan can be new or based off of past interns’ lesson plans
o Curriculum discussion following the first day of classes where the teacher will use the lesson plan described above
o Curriculum planning session following the first week of classes
· Social Media Interns:
o Reading and becoming familiar with the type of content put forth by the ANKURI Program on the various social media outlets, i.e. Instagram, Facebook, and the website
o Discussion with Rachna, craft managers, and fellows about ANKURI’s goals and ideals that they wish to be portrayed on social media – please go in depth in the conversations about what type of content needs to be on the website versus the Facebook page versus the Instagram etc.
· Research Interns
o Undertake independent research on relevant topics depending on their area of study.
o Undertake research for ANKURI on suggested topics:
o Gender studies
o Land ownership
o Food habits
o Nutrition studies
o Medical surveys – Allopathic vs natural vs homeopathic
o Craft as a means of livelihood
· Farming Interns (this internship is currently on hold):
o Interns are expected to work 20 hours a week for 6 -8 consecutive weeks. Workdays will begin early as to avoid midday when the summer sun is at its hottest. We will provide interns with sufficient accommodations, three meals daily, and several breaks interspersed throughout the workday.
Additionally, there will be opportunities for interns to collaborate and assist interns working on other projects of ANKURI’s multi-faceted approach; these include but are not limited to media, education, and knitwear design and marketing.
