The Resource Development Coordinator, working with the Communications Specialist and the Executive Director, manages the resource development efforts of LAWV, building and maintaining financial and volunteer support for the core mission of Legal Aid of West Virginia. The Resource Development Coordinator works with the Board, managers and staff to further LAWV’s resource development goals as outlined in LAWV’s Strategic Plan.
Scope of Responsibility:
Work performed in the office setting both statewide and locally.
Essential Job Functions – Resource Development:
- Develop a comprehensive and strategic fundraising plan to generate operating and targeted project revenue.
- Maintain Legal Aid’s constituent management system (CMS), with special attention to data accuracy, consistent tracking of relevant donor information and donor thank you and other communications.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of donations and seamless integration between the CMS and the online payment processor.
- Prepare donor reports and analysis for the Executive Director and Board as needed.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute donor cultivation events, the annual law firm fundraising campaign, corporate solicitation, direct mail appeals and other outreach and fundraising activities.
- Represent Legal Aid at fundraising and outreach events.
- Work with the Communications Specialist to identify and develop stories and thoughtful messaging from inside the organization to engage new and existing supporters.
- Work with the Pro Bono Supervising Attorney and Pro Bono Team regarding relationships with attorneys and coordinate resource development and pro bono efforts as appropriate.
- Manage prospect identification, solicitation, data collection and stewardship activities to individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities in support of annual campaigns, planned giving and capital needs.
- Coordinate marketing activities with the Communications Specialist for promoting annual campaigns, planned giving, capital needs, the endowment, and other long-range funding/resource development activities.
- Coordinate with the Grants Unit on foundation grant proposals and initiate or support proposals as appropriate.
- Work with a variety of internal teams focused on data collection, communications, training, access, outreach pro bono and services as needed to support LAWV’s mission.
- Work with the Executive Director to recruit external community leaders to advisory teams and support their activities.

Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 4-year degree and a minimum of five years’ experience managing diverse components of a fundraising program, including annual fund, major gifts, special events, planned giving and donor stewardship.
- A broad knowledge of the legal and social issues impacting LAWV’s clients and a commitment to social justice.
- Proven record of working with external advisory groups, corporate fundraising teams and community leaders.
- Well-developed administrative skills and experience working in an organization with multiple office sites. Experience working in a non-profit agency or law-firm is preferred.
- Ability to efficiently manage projects, complete day-to-day duties and facilitate effective fundraising projects while meeting internal and external deadlines.
- Excellent event planning, written and oral communication, research and organizational skills, especially attention to detail and responsiveness on timely requests.
- Significant proficiency with technology including constituent management software (CMS), and fundraising software.
- Team player with excellent organizational, networking and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to get along with diverse personalities and be tactful, professional, collaborative, friendly, helpful and flexible. Should have strong reasoning abilities and informal problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
- Travel required locally and statewide; occasional work outside of traditional office hours.

- The Resource Development Coordinator will work with their supervisor to develop goals within program priorities and funding; and work with their supervisor to identify individual training needs.
- The Resource Development Coordinator will account for 100% of their time using LAWV time sheets on a bi-weekly basis, with time spent involving private attorneys segregated and identified.
Resignation Requirement:
The Resource Development Coordinator is expected to give four (4) weeks written notice of their intent to cease employment with LAWV.
