GSAS: Getting Ready for the Academic Job Market - A Working Group
The Mignone Center for Career Success, the Fellowships & Writing Center, and the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning will host a three-week academic job market materials series for Harvard Griffin GSAS students. Anyone whose graduation date is November 2025 and after is welcome to attend. The purpose of the group is for students to craft their job market materials holistically, preparing a strong and cohesive portfolio of materials before the academic market begins to heat up in August.
Each week will focus on a different component of the dossier:
- Week 1, June 22 & 25 (10:30am-12:00pm EDT): The CV and cover letter
- Week 2, June 29 & July 2 (10:30am-12:00pm EDT): The research statement and writing sample
- NO MEETING week of July 6
- Week 3, July 13 & 16 (10:30am-12:00pm EDT): The teaching statement and sample syllabus
- Subsequent weeks: Drop-in sessions for additional questions and feedback (timing TBD)
The group will meet twice per week via Zoom: On Mondays, for an introduction to each document; and on Thursdays, for peer-review of participants’ drafts. By the end of the series, you will have a draft of the core components of your academic job dossier.
By registering for this working group, you acknowledge that you are expected to attend all sessions. Monday presentations will not be recorded, and participation each Monday is required to participate in the respective peer-review session the following Thursday. Participation in the subsequent drop-in sessions is optional.
You will receive the zoom link, which will work for all 6 sessions, via email. You must sign up with a valid Harvard email address to be eligible.
