Summary
Since 2021, Sunshine Action has been in the process of establishing a new branch office in the USA and UK outside of HK. We would like to invite students interested in completing an internship with a charity to help us with a wide range of tasks for any of our branches involving planning and organising humanitarian programs and events. We are aiming to focus on practical actions and events during this internship. Some examples of responsibilities you could have are given below.
Responsibilities
Note that tasks can be tailored to your learning interests.
New York & London Branches:
- Plan and implement physical poverty-relief programs such as donating Fortune Bags full of essential food and items to low-income families
- Develop partnerships and liaise with local charities for event management
- Assist with marketing efforts and promotion to volunteers
- Contact companies for donations and resources
- Organise fundraising events and write grant proposals
- Propose and develop unique charitable events or projects
- Other ad hoc duties for the charity including administration work
Hong Kong Branch:
- Plan and implement physical poverty-relief programs such as donating Fortune Bags full of essential food and items to low-income families
- Join all practical charity events on Friday evening for the street-sleepers and Saturday morning for the packing and distribution of the Sunshine Fortune Bags
- Develop partnerships and liaise with local charities for event management
- Assist with marketing efforts and promotions to volunteers
- Contact companies for donations and resources
- Organise fundraising events and write grant proposals
- Propose and develop unique charitable events or projects
- Other ad hoc duties for the charity including administration work
- Help to coordinate and join 1 or/and 2 charity trips to another country in Asia*
*Important Note: You will have to bear your own travel cost, including hotel, flight tickets, insurance, food etc. The trip from Hong Kong to one of these Asian countries should cost around US$800-1,000 depending on the length of the trip.
Internship Period
The summer internship has a flexible start date in June or July for a minimum of 8 weeks, this can be arranged and negotiated with each intern. We also welcome discussions with interns who wish to start immediately or during other parts of the year.
Location
For the UK/US branch, the internship will be in hybrid format, with preference for candidates located around London/New York City. All events organised will be in person. All work will be done remotely from home apart from tasks that involve visiting partners and running events, since Sunshine Action does not have a physical office in the USA. Regular meetings will mostly take place online.
For the Hong Kong branch, the internship will be hybrid with all events taking place in person. Meetings will take place both in person and online.
