Annabelle Dicarlo ALM, Liberal Arts

Where will you be living next year, and what will you be doing?
Tampa, FL – I will be continue to work remotely as a consultant to advise Governments in Africa on their policies and projects related to transport and power. The objective of the assignment is to help African countries plan, fund and deliver the key infrastructure needed for a healthy societal development and for economic growth.

What advice do you have for Harvard HES students, now that you have graduated?
Harvard professors curate material and bring you lots of knowledge. The amount of knowledge you will acquire depends on the amount of time and efforts invested in each class. Although it is difficult to set time aside for school work after a busy work day and family obligations, and some personal sacrifices will be needed, it is worth it. The intellectual stimulation, the learning curve and new horizons these programs offer compensate for the short-term time commitments.

In what ways has your Harvard Extension degree impacted your career?
It has helped me understand the underlying reasons for the delayed development in Africa and other developing countries. It also enlightened me about ways some of the societal difficulties can be addressed, especially through innovative policymaking and multi-faceted solutions. The knowledge acquired at Harvard enabled me to in turn address projects in Africa through a different lens.
